Your Online Guide For Canadian Hiking and Camping

The Bow Drill Fire

Sadly, I wish I could say that I successfully complete the Bow-Drill Fire Exercise. The truth is that I haven’t been able to do it in the last few seasons. Being in Canada – there is a limmited time to try these things, and between hiking and working – I just haven’t had the chance to practice, practice, practice.

But the video here shows all the steps that I have learned from doing research and practicing with friends. The most important thing I have learned since I created this video, is that the wood type is very important. One wood needs to be very soft, dry and rather plythy (fiberous) the other wood needs to be hard and dry.

I will post additional videos when I make improvements on my technique. For now you can enjoy my approach and ‘almost’ flame.
